Sitemap Submission Checklist

A guided, automated checklist that preflights your sitemap, walks you through submitting it in Google Search Console, and confirms your indexing status.

What this checklist does

Enter your domain and we fetch your sitemap the way Googlebot does — status code, XML validity, URL count, robots.txt rules, and noindex tags. Then you get the exact text to paste into Search Console, a tick-as-you-go submission guide, and two ways to confirm your pages actually made it into Google's index.

No sitemap yet? Build one with the Sitemap Generator first, then come back here.

Pro tips

Submit the path, not the full URL

Search Console prefills your domain — you usually type just sitemap.xml.

Fix reds before you submit

A 404, a noindex, or a Disallow: / makes Google reject the sitemap or ignore its URLs.

Add it to robots.txt too

A Sitemap: line in robots.txt gets you discovered by Bing and other crawlers automatically.

Re-run after Google reports

If Search Console says "Couldn't fetch", re-run the checks here — they test the exact same request.

Frequently asked questions

Google usually reads the sitemap within minutes to a few hours, but indexing individual pages takes anywhere from a day to a few weeks. Submitting speeds up discovery — it does not guarantee indexing.
